"Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.” - Stephen Hawking.
I was chatting with a friend today, reminiscing about our jobs when we met over 30 years ago. Back then, there were no mobile phones, no internet, and computers were barely a thing!

While I worked in recruitment, she used to sell ad space in the Yellow Pages (remember those? Do they even exist anymore?). Everything was manual—application forms, CVs retyped by the office secretary—and yes, people could still smoke in the office!
We had no idea how much technology would transform our careers and lives. And honestly, looking ahead now, we need a crystal ball to figure out what the next 10, 15, or 20 years will bring. What skills will we need? How will industries evolve?
It got me thinking: how do you future-proof your career?
Here are a few ideas:
Keep Learning: Stay curious and keep upskilling. Learn the latest tools, tech, or methods in your field. Bonus points for building transferable skills like problem-solving, adaptability, and communication—you’ll use those everywhere!
Get Comfortable with Tech: The world is only getting more digital, so embrace it. Stay on top of how tech is shaping your industry, and get involved in online communities like LinkedIn or industry-specific forums.
Adopt a Growth Mindset: Change is the only constant. Be ready to pivot, whether that’s learning a new skill, taking on a new role, or even moving into a new industry.
Build Your Personal Brand: Put yourself out there! Share your expertise online, attend events, and connect with mentors or colleagues in your field. Networking isn’t just about who you know—it’s about who knows you, too.
Diversify Your Career: Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Explore freelancing, consulting, or side projects. Multiple income streams can give you flexibility and security in an uncertain world.
Change is inevitable, but how you respond to it makes all the difference.
What’s one small step you could take this month to keep yourself current and ahead of the curve?
Excellent advice. Thank you
